hello from raglan!
Hey lovelies! I'm in Raglan at present, liking my hippie hostel better than the one at Hahei. It's got a better shower for one, a sauna (although I probably won't use it since we're leaving at 8 AM tomorrow and we kinda just arrived...), working internet and lounge with Sky, but I must say the bed at Hahei's Cathedral Cove is better. It sucks you in and you never want to get up. Oh and forget cute guys. There are some guys in the group but they're mostly the British bloke types (which mean liquor day in and day out), and there's a cute (and seemingly single) German guy that strangely enough I really am not interested in. Alright bitches...My back's sore, dinner's coming and I'd better get off before my internet time's run out and it will cost me another dollar to get back on. Next stop, Maketu!

just an update
I'm having my very last exam (I hope) at uni today at 02.15 PM, so wish me all the best of luck in the world! I desperately need that! And it's official! I'm back working at Auckland International starting July 7! Not really full-time yet as I'm still on student visa until July 31, but I'm going to work 20 hours!

Anyone remembers Dutch musician Robby Valentine (is his actual surname Valentijn?) who soared to fame with Over and Over Again in 1990? No? Well that's not a wonder, because he's a one hit wonder. After Over and Over Again, his career seemed to be over, although actually to date he's still up and about in the biz.
One of my fondest childhood memories is listening to the song on my dad's car audio on the way to the mall. Hahahha...And speaking of childhood, for those who grew up in the fright that is present-day Jakarta, don't you just miss the Jakarta we used to know? Where the only malls around were Pondok Indah Mall, Ratu Plaza (and don't you miss the old Ratu Plaza...), and Plaza Indonesia? When Jakarta was practically dead on weekends? I have a picture of my family taken in 1991 on the road where Niaga Tower now proudly stands (I can't remember the road's name...yes been away way too long!) It was taken right in the middle of the road. It was so safe, and in the background is a grass field which would later transform into...that building with a pyramid on top where Sidharta Sidharta & Widjaja is. That - some two years before Niaga Tower, some ten years before that Kuningan business district thing, and many many years before One Pacific Palace - is one of my favorite reminders of what Jakarta was like. And did I ever mention that I have a thing for young European rockers? Hahahaha. I recently found out that Valentine was only 22 when the song became a hit. That's weird, because he always seemed old to me (yes I can recall very clearly gazing at his pictures on Hai as a seven-year-old.) So yeah, I still have some kind of a celebrity crush on Gil Ofarim! Hahahahaha...Listening to: Gil Ofarim - Out of My Head Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 10:16 a.m. |
on being not so easy on the eye
Since an early age I've been aware that I haven't been blessed with good looks. Since then also I've relied on my wits to attract any member of the opposite sex. Or just about anyone for that matter. I'm tired of the situation. I wish I were as pretty as Miranda Kerr. Or young Catherine Deneuve. Or any beauty icon. I wish I could just sit pretty and everything would be done for me. I wish I were as lucky as that friend of mine, so beautiful and so rich that all she has to do is smile and tell anyone who would listen about her vast travels and boys will come to her in throngs. Seriously. Who needs knowlegde on Jean Luc Goddard and second wave feminism when you have, quoting the great Christopher Marlowe, a face that launched a thousand ships? When you have a booty to boot, you don't have to spew forth brilliant ideas to sell spices and communicate fire safety to the masses. That's what I want for a change. To be so beautiful so I wouldn't have to do anything whatsoever to get by.

the real me is a big city girl...
I just saw Sex and The City and guess what, I actually like it! Yes, that's coming from me, the anti Hollywood. Just seeing the stills of the movie everywhere already strained my eyes. How over the top are those clothes! When Irene asked me to go with her for Sex and The City, and I hedged a bit and suggested we see Happy Go Lucky instead. She wouldn't budge, and since I missed her anyway, off we went to see the hype that is Sex and The City. And surprise, me likey! I actually expected it to be kind of vacuous, just a fashion parade and nothing more. Just like Step Up to The Street in terms of laughable dialogue and predictable plotline. While the plotline is predictable - I knew the big wedding would scare Big, Big and Carrie would get hitched in the end, Miranda and Steve would kiss and make up - the dialogue is just smart. As for all that glam and glitz, that's part of the movie's escapist pleasure, and what a significant part too! Anyhoo, all that fashion and big city hoolabaloo really made me miss Jakarta and its superficiality. Did I mention that I do plan on moving to either London or Singapore in about two years' time? Auckland and its sleepyness have started to bore me. Yawn yawn.
